Overview

The College Now STEM Research Academy at York College is designed to provide students with an opportunity to engage in authentic research activities. Utilizing a two-semester program model (spring to summer), students will be allowed to enroll in a spring Backyard Toxicology class to strengthen basic skills such as formulating researchable questions, designing testable experiments, performing literature searches in library databases, and reading scientific literature including peer-reviewed journal articles. The goal of the spring course is to introduce students to the expectations of working in a research lab environment. Upon successful completion of the spring course, students will have the opportunity to participate in a six-week research program from July through mid-August.

Eligibility Requirements


Must be a NYC public high school students in good standing


Have an 80+ on Math Regents and 75+ on the Living Environment and ELA Regents


Be a high school junior and recommended by a high school administrator or teacher
