New York Bioforce

Mudd Building of Columbia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science, Manhattan

May - August

New York Bioforce is a workforce development internship program that provides NYC high school students with hands on lab training designed to meet the needs of biomedical research labs, biotech start-ups, and biopharmaceutical companies.

During the program students will receive 100 hours of research training, ranging from hands-on biomedical research skills like PCR, gel electrophoresis, and microscopy, to science communication and networking skills. After the training is completed, students are paired with a research mentor in labs and companies from around New York City, including labs at Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine. Students conduct 120 hours of research in labs under the guidance of their mentors to complete research projects.

This program is four months long and includes training which takes place on weekends and weekdays when school is not in session during the months of May and June. Internships are full-time through July and August and also when the bulk of research is accomplished.
