OVERVIEW

Genspace is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting science literacy through citizen access to biotechnology. We provide STEM educational outreach, cultural events, and a platform for science innovation at the grassroots level.

Our BioRocket program consists of a spring after-school hands-on science program and a summer research internship experience for New York City public and charter high school students. This a great opportunity for students to gain real-world experience in the life sciences, and to design and implement a team research project.

Students receive a $2000 stipend
Access to scientist mentors
Get behind-the-scenes lab tours and field trips
Improv training for science communication skills
Students who complete this program will draft an original scientific paper that they can use for college applications, submit to student scientific journals, or other uses

Genspace Biorocket Research Internship Program information card. Describes a six-month paid biology research internship in Brooklyn for high school students. Program includes lab training, collaborative research project design, experiments, data analysis, and visits to labs and biotechnology companies. Students present research posters at an August symposium. Includes eligibility for students age 16 and older, stipend amount, application deadline, timeline, and a QR code for more information.

Eligibility Requirements


Must be 15 years of age by July 1, 2019


Must attend a NYC Public or Charter School within 45 min of Genspace


Must have a teacher or mentor reference


Must complete the online application (this includes a video or short essay)


Must commit to participating from February–May, and July–August

Application Requirements


Applications are open in November and are due by early January


The application consists of an online form, one to two essay responses (one of which may be submitted as a video entry), a teacher reference, and an interview
