  • Congrats Class of 2016!

Congrats to all our scholars who are graduating high school this year! As Director of Youth Learning and Research at AMNH, Dr. Preeti Gupta, stated at this year's Student Research Colloquium: "You are all not ordinary students. You have each made significant contributions to the field of science." We know that you each will continue to lead the future of STEM!

BioRocket Internship at GenSpace

The best way to inform 21st-century dialogue about science is to have stakeholders understand it from a hands-on perspective. To this end, Genspace is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting science literacy through citizen access to biotechnology. We provide STEM educational outreach, cultural events, and a platform for science innovation at the grassroots level. BioRocket is our foremost high school education program. It introduces New York City high schooler to fundamental concepts in molecular biology and scientific research through a spring after-school program that then culminates in a 7-week summer synthetic biology research experience. As part of the program, we introduce our students to preeminent scientists from around the city.

Program Details

This combination of a spring after-school learning program and summer research experience gives New York City public high school students an opportunity to learn synthetic biology and laboratory research skills. The aim of BioRocket is to fill learning gaps that make it difficult for some students to transition from schoolwork to a laboratory internship. BioRocket introduces them to fundamental concepts in molecular biology and scientific research through a spring after-school program, then culminates in a 7-week summer research experience.
